‘The Give Tilly a Hand’ Celebrity Handprint Auction

It started with a promise, an idea and a lot of support from friends, family, companies, strangers and we wouldn’t have been able to do it without your help.

The Promise...
The night before Tilly went in hospital to have her hands amputated I cuddled her in close and I made her a promise. I promised Tilly that mummy would do everything that she could to help her buy some new hands and to also give her as much opportunity in life as possible.

The Idea...
Tilly’s Godparents came up with the idea of ‘The Give Tilly a Hand Appeal’ and the fantastic idea of asking Celebrities to Give a Hand Print for Tilly and customise it as they liked, these handprints would be auctioned to raise money for Tilly’s new hands. The handprints started to roll in one by one and it was amazing to see actually how many celebrities were touched by Tilly’s story and wanted to donate their handprint too!
A company called ‘Photography for Little People’ telephoned us one evening after seeing us on the news discussing the celebrity handprints. They kindly offered to donate their time, skill and materials to take clay celebrity hand impressions. We travelled up and down the county taking the hand impressions and Tilly got to meet many celebrities that wanted to help her! Photography for Little People became our Headline Sponsor at our Celebrity Handprint Auction 2009 .

Denise Welch...
Denise telephoned us one day and said that she had been told about Tilly and as she was a local girl she would love to help us. Denise popped around for coffee one afternoon to play with Tilly and meet us all. She wanted to help with our appeal and help us collect handprints for our forthcoming ball. Denise interviews celebrities daily on Loose Women and asked as many guests as she could to join in and help by giving a handprint! Denise became the patron of ‘The Give Tilly a Hand Appeal’.
The more people heard about Tilly the more people wanted to help in their free time and we soon gathered a steering committee who would help me organise this amazing ball.

The Ball...
The Newcastle/Gateshead Hilton Hotel September 5th 2009
Shocking Pink and Black! Photographers! Celebrities! Shocking Pink Hand -printed Carpet with champagne on arrival! Magicians! Showgirls dressed in Black and Pink feathers, Star Wars Characters, Characters and cars from the James Bond films..... From the moment that our guests walked through the door there was glamour and glitz with a display of celebrity handprints, balloon bonanza and a chance to win an Audi TT.
Space Craft Ltd had dramatically transformed the Gateshead suite at the Hilton with glitzy chandeliers and feathers, huge hanging handprints and giant screens!

The night was full of delicious food, drink and entertainment including the Encore Dancers, Kennedy the Mind Illusionist and our Special Headline Act, Richard Fleeshman who sat at his White Grand Piano. We also had a teary video presentation about Tilly’s story and appeal accompanied by X Factor finalists BADLASHES singing Tilly’s songs live – Patience (Take That) and Somewhere over the Rainbow! And of course our handprints were auctioned by our celebrities!
The night was amazing and we couldn’t have been happier! We raised approximately £30,000 for Tilly that night which is overwhelming.
